Support 51 Walden

Your Financial Support

November 29, 2021

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, please accept our deepest gratitude for your support during our Annual Appeal in years past. The Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden has greatly benefited from your generous contributions allowing us to successfully maintain the historic building we cherish, especially when needing to operate at minimal capacity to observe Covid-19 safety guidelines.

The three resident groups, The Concord Players, The Concord Orchestra, and The Concord Band, have exciting productions and concerts this season.  The Concord Players recently presented Sense and Sensibility by Kate Hamill with great acclaim and look forward to performing Harvey in February and Titanic  the Musical next spring. The Concord Orchestra is conducting a search for a new music director and has five finalists guest conducting this season. It will present a concert entitled Restoring Balance, on December 3 and 4, with Zeke Fetro as conductor and soloist Randall Hodgkinson performing Edward MacDowell’s Piano Concerto No, 2 in D Minor.  Small ensembles were featured at the Band’s fall concerts, and the Band will play a holiday concert on December 11 in the same format, then the full Band will play standards such as Sleigh Ride and Auld Lang Syne.  Finally, Opera51, which had a stellar performance of Mozart’s Magic Flute in August, will host a Messiah Sing on December 19th and is planning a semi-staged performance of Turandot next June.  We hope you can come and enjoy all of these uplifting and exhilarating performances.

Our Annual Appeal provides the operating funds to keep our charming facility running and attend to its routine maintenance needs.  The safety and well-being of performers and audience members continue to be a top priority. We are making progress in the design and installation of a new ventilation system. In the meantime, we have installed UltraVation BioGardUV™ in the main hall and lobby areas and AIRDoctor™ HEPA Professional Air Purifiers in the lobby area. Unexpectedly we are also facing two major building projects: replacement of two boilers and repairing a large portion of the roof above the right-side entryway to the hall.  These two projects will cost nearly $50,000, well above our budget for this year.

With your generous contribution to our Annual Appeal, we will continue to be able to fulfill our joyous purpose in the building where the community’s performing arts are rehearsed, performed and celebrated.

Sincerely,

Deborah J. Peirce
President, Board of Directors
