Opera 51 auditions for Tosca
Opera51 will be holding auditions on November 6 and 13, 2022 for its June 2023 production of Puccini’s opera, Tosca. The opera will be double cast with each cast doing 2 performances. These are fully costumed, staged performances with orchestra.
Roles to be auditioned are:
Floria Tosca—soprano—Cover only*
Mario Cavaradossi – tenor —Cover only*
Baron Scarpia – Baritone —Cover only*
Cesare Angelotti – Baritone/Bass
A Sacristan –Baritone/Bass
Spoletta – Tenor
Sciarrone—Baritone/Bass
A Jailer – Baritone/Bass
Audition Dates:
Sunday Nov 6th –10am – 5pm at Newbury Court (100 Newbury Court in Concord, MA)
Sunday Nov 13th –10am to 5pm at Newbury Court (100 Newbury Court in Concord, MA)
Performances:
June 9th 8pm (Cast 1)
June 10th 2pm (Cast 2) and 8pm (Cast 1)
June 11th 2pm (Cast 2)
Rehearsals:
Staging rehearsals are May 20 th – May 26th. Music rehearsals with orchestra are May 30th-June 2nd. Tech week begins Saturday June 3rd. In addition, there will be several coaching sessions for principal singers at dates TBD in April and May.
A small stipend will be paid to all principal and covers. We will have these figures available at the auditions.
*Cover roles are covers only and will not have stage time unless a principal singer is unavailable/ill during a rehearsal or performance.
Please prepare a short aria from the period in Italian. A pianist will be provided but please provide a copy of the music. Tosca, Cavaradossi and Scarpia covers should prepare an aria from Tosca.
